Looks great so far though I agree with Eric & Asylum that you should up the polys on the legs and add hair planes (eventually). This would be a great idea for a game... bug riders... wasn't there a cartoon or animated feature that did this? Love that you chose a rhino beetle too!

This is my first attempt at a modular environment for a university project, my concept I am aiming at is a cartoon style frontier village. I have still to add a few more props like cactus and a broken wagon. My tri limit is 15,000. any advice or constructive criticism is welcome :)
As promised, as I continue to finish my art in the hand drawn 3D cartoons thread, I want to start over and make a new portfolio. And to get jump started on that goal, I will bring to life the most coolest console ever created in the history of video games. The legendary SEGA Genesis! B)
Its like painting normals from scratch, sure you can do it, but what is the point? It will never look as good or be as accurate, and many cases it will take much longer. Saying rendered maps take away from the "artistry" is just silly, thats like saying using global illumination to light an environment takes away from the…
Cartoons have been using CGI for a while now. Even the Lion King in 1994 used CG for the running sequences. The animators are just very clever to blend it in with traditional animation. [ame=" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLmAT6t5kL0"]www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLmAT6t5kL0[/ame]
Thanks for the great suggestions. I kinda want to keep the 360° since it kinda adds a more "cartoon dramatic death" feel. Maybe going with one large cough would be better then the two quick coughs? might read better and slow things down a bit?
Daark : Hey mate, thanks for pointing that out! I figure although the mask is perfectly flat in the cartoon, I would take some lenience in adapting him in to 3D which is why I curved his mask. Update! : Here is my first pass on the texture
Throwing a sequence of rendered images at the system produces a mesh that's nowhere close to the original, most notably the arms are missing. Cheap: Forget it. I doubt it'd work on cartoons, either because those are low on color information and therefore recognizeable shapes. And they never match up.
Good progress.I would suggest you to take more time on face. Right now it feels a bit cartoon styled. His eye is popping out too much. Ears aren't correct. Nostrils, jaw line etc. needs lot of work. And his legs are way too short.
