Here's 2 quick ways I did that (still new at this and my mesh sucks, but you get the idea). On the left, bumps modeled out of the plane, and on the right a lenghtened cylinder to get the same shape. If you want I can provide the OBJ to see it better.
Thank you for your comment. Yes you are right it's really dense but it's only a prototype and not the final model, I needed to be very precise to model a shape so later I can mont a certain shapes on top, so basically it's only a base and will be removed later :)
I'd like to hear recommendations on how you handle corners and hard edges when you are going out on a curved surface, like below. I usually just try to finesse it until the highlight looks as least bad as possible but I'm sure there's a solid solution.
Well, about just going with whatever topology as long as it works is kinda of a tradeoff imo. If you build your topology correct it might be easier for you to just retopologize stuff and to easily make changes. And yeah, by correct I'm not saying only quads, this is not really correct.
Could you please send me your .max file perna? i never heard about this method and i would like to learn how it works. I also searched for your video with pedro, like you mentioned, but dont found it hehe B)
Thank you Wirrex and SnowInChina! I tried both of your methods. I found that SnowInChina's "Method 2" worked best. Although I did not use an empty I found it suited my needs perfectly. Thank you guys so much. RESULTS
There are scripts that do things similar to this but i'm not sure if you will get exact curvature like you would for a cylinder. Most sub-d guys I know would just re-make it. If it has some crazy orientation then just cap the end and use auto grid on the cap to draw your new cylinder and then scale it. I know that's not…
Thanks. I got it to work once I set the sub-d level to 1, instead of 2. It matches up great. So my question is about putting this into practice. It seams kind of time consuming to cut in a bunch of edges like that in order to add support to some detail you need. It would be awesome if you could show a practical problem and…
ok i hope this helps started with cylinder and then expanded the edges and layed out a strip of copies combined them added a bend modifier converted to editable poly deleted 75 percent to add in details and intrude holes added curves and bolts copied and rotated copies welded and curve over al surfaces hope you guys like…
To jump off topic slightly to software used to create Sub Dizzle Geo. Professionally I use 3ds max and of course you can do anything in any software but I recently picked up EarthQuakes weapon of choice SILO and its wicked fast and awesome. Its also a package that you can afford since its only $150 USD. So you don't have…
