Get a decentish Gamer video card, say Nvidia 460/560. Quadros suck for game dev, they're optimized to do things like anti-aliased wireframe on CAD models. When it comes to running realtime shaders and games(IE: UDK) a moderate gamer card will be much better. Get yourself an SSD too, say 120gb or so minimum. You'll see a…
Repeating Frendens numbers for PPI... Uh no I used the power of google to find a website for calculating PPI http://pixeldensitycalculator.com/ As far as repeating everything on the Frendens review, the only thing I remember from his review was that he was extremely happy with the yiynova U models, and that was in part…
Wages are really dependent on the market, I've seen them in the range of 45,000 to 55,000, overtime may or may not be paid especially if you have a salary. Once you have some work experience freelance might be a good option too. Your hand painted art is already quite strong. I would definitely make a list of studios that…
Can keep auto update on, but edit a reg key to disable auto restart. You'll have to manually restart to install the update, but at least you can choose when to do it. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555444 The reminder to restart still pops up, but it won't auto restart when the timer runs out like it does by default. I…

Ideas for changes are always welcome :) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1114083/TAB/TAB.rar PS: You need the newest redist package to run…
Sorry for the huge post here, but I just wanted to share the Bioshock Benchmark utility. I ran it at max settings at 1080p. You can see the average frame rate sits between 35-55fps. It's awesome having a laptop that is more powerful than my desktop :P I can't recommend this laptop enough. During the benchmark I could…
It's getting there :) A bit more contraste and variation in the diffuse would be good I think. Also, to have more separation (specular wise) would help I think : http://forums.digitalpoint.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=55954&d=1313144419
I personally do the same as Kurt suggested. For several modifiers I have buttons that I'll click to apply it and set up the settings how I like. I went over the steps in more detail here: http://www.polycount.com/2011/05/16/maxscript-for-newbies/#more-5510 But basically you turn on the maxscript listener, toggle show cage…
I looked into your high-poly mesh and found some values such as "-556207380231995010000000.0000" which are very big (I believe those were UV coordinates). Can you try removing the UVs of your HP mesh and try to rebake in Painter ?
Hey thanks for the extensive reply, I decided to put seam A over there because it's facing to the back I feel like it's the best place or should it still be on the side? I made the whole island one thing I don't know what i was thinking to keep it all separate haha I also merged a lot of separate pieces I didn't think…
