Hmm, maybe I should call tech support and say mine is broken I was considering buying another adapter so I can have one at work and one at home (so I don't always have to fish it out of my bag.
Just throwing this here :) Mermaid Ref, kinda sorta. http://genzoman.deviantart.com/art/Atlantis-183437968 Depends on which direction you're taking her to, I guess. I have seen mermaids with lower buttocks and her fish part starts right below that. All in all, yes to bellybutton. :)
I agree with Panda on that the texturing will be very important. But maybe add some more stuff and props to the boat, so you can give it a story and a more solid presentation? Like make it a small fishing boat? Or journeyman boat? There are lots of directions you can push it to make it really interesting.
I think overall the character looks great, I really like the design and colour scheme. The only thing though that strikes me are the dark lines on the back of his head. I'm not sure if that is a characteristic of star fish, but it just looks off to me. Otherwise no other crits, nice work!

It's weird, because I remember seeing that the German actor Thomas Kretschmann was orginally playing Krauss' voice, but then all of the sudden it was Macfarlane, and what's weirder is that Krauss sounded a lot more like the German Fish from Macfarlane's other show American Dad, although Macfarlane doesn't voice him.
I think some of those spine polys would be better used making the fins more rounded, try making the entire fish black and seeing what bits stand out as really sharp- several fins look pretty angular compared to the smooth body. nice work though
Not lothar of the hill people. I'm not positive but it seems in order to be a real modeller one must build a barbarian or brute type of character. Since my models so far have been skinny weenies, I've decided to tackle my requisite barbarian. Here's the concept Lothar the Pretty, aged barbarian. Just fishing for…
