I tried a few methods of achieving transparency with a spec map in marmoset and each one failed miserably for me lol. I have not tried since upgrading to 108 though. If you figure it out I sure would like to know how it was done.
You have a point, but wouldn't that be considered more as a feature? Gumroad is still pretty fresh, so it's not out of the realm of possibilities that a search/category system can be implemented, like Patreon. Steam was released in 2002 and didn't start to have a community until 2008 for example.

I went and read the guy's ACTUAL site, and the whole September 21 2009 bit? It's a last minute edit. Towards the bottom of the site, and where this guy has all his calculations, it says that the rapture will be 2008. Something tells me his math was wrong. >:)
The composite material was updated in 2008-09. 3dsmax 9's version is fairly old and clunky but I think it might get the job done. I think the biggest difference is in the blending modes, the new version works like photoshop's layer blending modes.

It was intended to work with a file for the color map and a diffrent file for the alfa map (it ignores the alfa channel in the files,it uses just the RGB components),i don't know if the max hlsl parser can use psd files,in max 2008 this kind of files work.
thanks rooster ! unfortunately just tried and it doesn't work with 2008. is the source out there someplace? its not too hard to recompile for different versions of maya. edit*** found this importer, works great, http://www.inlandstudios.com/download.html now just need to find a way to export
