The hardest (and most rewarding) subject to sculpt is human anatomy. Possibly because it is so intimately recognisable. This is just my opinion, but I would start practicing whole figures. The same with drawing, you see a great character, but the feet are incorrect. Start by making sculpting sketches. In the beginning stop…
It's awesome that you're posting and asking for feedback on your first character, keep that attitude for the rest of your life and it will take you places! :D One of the hardest things to get right is stylized anatomy. You wont be able to fully capture this character until you understand the underlying realistic anatomy.…
Well I just bought a month pass for 3d motive and there was a tutorial on doing a stone wall like that so this texture is just the result from watching it. It was very useful. To sum up you make a tiling low poly pattern in 3ds max or maya or whatever, takeit into zbrush, sculpt it, back to your 3d app, duplicate the…
I made some changes to the face sculpt at as low of a resolution as I could. I think I could still use some work on the upper eyelids and nose at a lower res. I think I'll do that and move on to some anatomy practice. What I'm thinking I'll do is sculpt out a human male skull. Then I'll create the musculature that attaches…
Agreed 100% with Swizzle. Look at those Hazardous course threads and especially pay attention to the references they've gathered. Look at the shape of the female face and practice drawing it, and then practice sculpting it. Look up anatomy reference, look at the way muscles flow into each other. Look at female silhouettes…
Don't worry about messing up the smooth feel; go back a few subdivs and start there. Make it look kinda pixel-y, that's okay. If you go back, work until it starts looking pixelated, THEN subdivide, it smooths it out. If you start at a high subdiv, it will be muddy and blobby. Additionally; shift is mapped as the smooth…
I've been working on this portfolio piece for a while...it's sort of been my training grounds for learning to sculpt in Zbrush. But now it's time to (hopefully) finish this as well as some other pieces for my porfolio. The problem is that I've been working on it for so long and I'm still very new to sculpting -- I've got…
Hello folks, I am Enimael Finally I am posting some stuff of mine. This is a Zbrush character I am currently sculpting from a concept I did earlier. It is almost my first experience with zbrush so any help is very welcome. I watched the free tutorials on Zbrushcentral so a base is there, but I dont know much of the finer…
Hey all, This was a personal project outside of my day to day at ILM. Based on multiple references online I created a face with the aim of giving it a feeling of life and expressiveness. In terms of type I ended up leaning a little towards Bonobo. I also wanted to stay true to elements that typical chimps have such as a…
Ryan Schmidt has a "could be handy" app that mixes meshes together. Who hasn't wanted to combine a library of parts into a single mesh at one point or another? Some sculpting apps sort of have ways of doing similar tasks but they have their limitations and draw backs. If this app does nothing for the industry other than…
