ROFL - made me spit tea on my keyboard. :D +1 for Booleanss - of if you're a real pro, trace animal shapes in splines from photos of animal cookie-cutters, extrude and subtract to get Zooleans. :D
Maya 2017 and Maya 2018 have a been a huge improvement. It now has a lot of features that Max has, so I'm pretty happy with it. it finally does extrude with shift. It took over a decade for Autodesk to add this.
Your gun is looking very flat at the moment, almost as if you made a silhouette and extruded it. work on making it more soft, your handle for instance looks like it would really be uncomfortable to hold because of how sharp it is.
cool, thanks. yea thats pretty much what i did, but it was bothering me because of the orientation of the ends of the extrudes (where they loop back around) werent perfectly round, but sharp on one corner and obtuse on the other.
yes, there are alot of unneeded edges, here is how it should be: The posts don't need to be extruded from the base, I created the post and intersected it with the base, I also delete the bottom face from the post and the base itself.
Nice start! Remember though, this is CryEngine, don't be afraid to go a little nuts. Maybe break some of those planks loose and extrude them or remove them entirely. Some decals could help out as well.
ok started with the gaurd thing, created the basic shape then made the holes as cylinders cutting them to intersect correctly and then used mayas edge extrude to create the hard edge loop which i connected the mian body polys to now to figure the otherside out
Might as well show my progress with a few things to note I noticed that the yellow portion of the cup is z fighting with the glass jar (blue portion) so I'm planning on extruding the yellow portion a bit. The plan I have for the yellow portion is to include an Alpha channel.
Oops, extruded vertices on my skull in progress. I used box modeling to create the basic shape and I've started sculpting it. I am going to do some edge modeling next to fit in the eye and nose holes on this skull. His new hair is very metal.
correction, i've also built organic levels in max from splines. it's a bit janky but fun... build out the floor of your map with splines convert to edit poly then teselate... then extrude splines out to make the organic walls... this is useful technique for doing organic hallways in general...
