No, you could get a better PC for the price (6 Cores, more RAM, better PSU etc.) I would build a $1000-1500 PC now and upgrade in 3-5 years. Or Max > Containers. 2010 and 2011 allow you to open the containers and edit the files locally without having to go back to the original file. Or what about using render presets?
