diffuse and maybe spec. thats it. as i mentioned it earlier i want to improve my handpainting skills. and when i hear the word hand painting i think of games like diablo, wow, torchlight etc.
well yes, as is also the vegetation grass, but other vegetation types are for example painted , it really depends what comes out best , the palm trees in crysis 1 where most probably handpainted while ther trunk was photosourced and reworked .
Are you planning to keep the handpainted quality of the concept? If so, in addition to looking up references of specific objects, I'd also look up examples of 3D props that have that same style since that'll be important in your workflow too.
id advise you to go and reunwrap that model and do alot of overlapping, cut the model in half and overlap the textures...Also when you go to paint it, what style are you going for? realistic or handpainted? Gather a lot of references of vehicles.
Yeahi and to start of: This is a concept I been working on this week. A travelling merchant with her pet pig and lama. Planned is to realize it in 3D with handpainted textures. Propably will use Maya and Zbrush and build it in Unreal or render in Toolbag. Critic is VERY welcome!
You use named user channels as inputs for handpainted masks There's sod all documentation on the Allegorithmic site but Bradford Smith put up a video about using them on paragon a while back. It's pretty straightforward, you'll work it out.
Eager to see what's the stylized PBR will look like. That's something we don't see often, but the rare good examples we've seen were promising. I love the handpainted diffuse only style but maybe it's time to go deeper ^^.
mesh looks better, thumb is still weird and i still see wasted polygons, i wouldnt worry about mudboxing yet since you should practise more your handpainted texture painting imo. Good luck !
