Yea I keep fighting with that face anger issue. I've kinda resigned myself to the fact that it'll be more tigerish than evil spiderish like the original concept, but I'll see what I can do to get some more anger in the face.
If i create a new cube, inset all the faces, then add a projection modifier and push the cage out, it happens there too. Something to do with the fact the new faces dont have smoothing groups maybe. But i don't want to highjack your thread with this issue.

Whenever I drag out an alpha it has this weird fade almost like the radial fade option and I don't know how to get rid of it. Never had this in 4r7 I tried to find why this happens but I have no idea.

I can see a little bit of linework on his face, but it's really hard to make it out. The combination of the faceted facing and lighting I feel could detract greatly from the final texture work. Although continue to experiment... Good stuff will come from it!
