What is the end intention? Is this to be in a game, as a looping ambient animation for a prop asset? Assuming this is the intention, I would suggest pre-baking the animation into bones, and using skinning to animate the meshes. This is highly performant, but not interactive. Humans, like most organics that are still here, are hardcoded to survive and replicate, it defines our aggression... but AI "life" might be completely inhuman and not have the same fears or needs. Blender does have a Remesh modifier with a Blocks option and using an icosphere might get more consistent results than an UVsphere (difference on the "north/south" poles and the other "axis poles"). To replicate the exact rasterization you might want to play with the scale factor of the modifier -

Ohhh this is a doozy of a problem. When I first saw it, my initial reaction was "geosphere". What is this stitch pattern called? If you know it, then for sure there is a way to replicate it. Just need to see all the sides. -
