ooo man - i really dig your last renders, colours and light is awesome!! i'm not sure about the brick(?) floor texture - it seems a bit too contrasting (gaps between 'bricks' too dark) - and it's too distracting to what's actually standing on that floor (lockers)
Just an update ... Didn't have much time over the last couple of days so the progress has been slow + I am modelling the chest for May noob challenge. I did some work on bricks in general, painted in top bricks and the side tower.
I think your cealing could be ok if it was not brick.. and make it like there are rock sheets around, and some are missing. indicating that it's covered to have that flat cealing look. But brick as it is would not be able to support it. Some ref pics of lighting and elements that you could benefit from.
Looks good! 2 main crits would be the shiny spots on the floor a lil bit too shiny or too "splattery", and the wall on the left looks rather flat especially at the top where the bricks fade into the drips. We should still see the normal map of the bricks through the drips.
This is looking good until now. Something I noticed in the ref image is that the base has much bigger bricks , not so many as yours. Between the 2 pillars I see almost 3 bricks and you have almost 5 . Not a big deal anyway. Good luck ahead.
I retried the procedure again and think I might be onto the problem. After generating a displacement map from a photo normal(picture of bricks) I realize that what I was left with was a displacement where actually only a few of the bricks were white and the rest was a black mass.
It seems like your asking for advice on two separate things. If you are asking if you should lay out your high poly bricks & mortar into the shape of the sewer arch, I'd say no. Make your high poly bricks and mortar and bake that out to a tiling texture.
Nice job dude, i really love the overall style, can we see the texture for the exterior? Btw! I dig the darker picture, it gives me the creeps! in a good way! And the Bricks on the Pillar (exterior) seems larger then the bricks on the building itself, shouldnt they be the same size?
Anyone know if this is normal? I have some bricks from zbrush and when i bake the edges are super sharp, i have 4x anti aliasing on, i dont know why everything is nice and smooth inside the brick but outside the shape its extremly crisp?
Sweet man looking forward to updates on your site. Another followup what kind of polycount are you talking about for those bricks. Every time I try something like that in max the thing chugs at like 2.5 frames because of the sheer number of turbosmoothed bricks!
