Hey everyone, I am about to start using Maya and I think the structure of a book would help me learn the basics for the program. I am considering buying "Learning Autodesk Maya 8|Foundation" and I'd like to know if any of you use this book, or if there is a better starter book I could grab. Here is the book on Amazon:…
Bit of a downer to leave the thread on. I bought my version of zB in 2004, it knocked my sox off. So accustomed their updates are useless I stopped to bother installing them. Hmm. Unsubstantiated claims ho! I dunno when you stopped updating and what turns you on but it sounds like you missed the good stuff over the last 21…

There's some weird bug with the RTT dialog clearing the light update function, sloppy code from Autodesk probably, but since it hasn't been updated since 2004 (the file says so), it's up to us to work around it. That's something R-J will try to fix once he has his pc...

I'm liking this year's PC FPS prospects, some bright new original ones are looking mighty fine: Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, Pariah, FEAR and Bioshock (although Bioshock might not quite be this year...). 2004 was certainly brought on a sea of sequels, but 2005 is certainly looking to be a year for new and original games.
Is the blade a separate subtool? I wasnt really sure by the answer you gave cryrid. If not, it would be worth while spliting the mesh into polygroups and then into subtools as you can subd each subtool to the maximum polycount that your machine can handle. Another option would be to retopo the blade and re-project. Also…
