The way I think about it is> hard edges are for mesh shading. Spliting the UV once the only concern about using hard edges is addressed is basically using the button to convert hard edges to UV seams. aka stop using the convert UV seams to hard edges button, you are doing it backwards :#
Hi! In this case I would consider setting the 90 degree edges of the lowpoly to hard, as currently its shading has quite the gradients, which the normal map has to compensate for. Remember to split UVs at hard edges. Zip and attach the meshes to the thread if you want a second pair of eyes on it. You might find more…
Hello,I recently tried to bake this low poly mesh (it has some hardened edges) with an high polybut these black artifacts appear, I really don't know if this is normal or what could I do to make the normal map bake look better?Extra information:-The UV cuts are in the same place as the hard edgesthanks Where hard edges are…
just look at the lowpoly mesh without wireframe. the shading is just very strong. without more resolution and probably 16bit depth, the normalmap can only do so much. ideally you want as little shading as possible in your lowpoly.you can achieve this by using extra chamfers (costs more geo) or using hard edges on UV seams,…
It's hard to tell what's going on for sure, but if there's a slight bulge in the center and you use subdivision with one central pole, you can get subdivision artifacts like that, you can try to use multiple loops and make sure the middle circle is completely flat or use a geo/cube sphere for a starting point and avoid…
Cheers mate good luck for the future and a personal thank you contributing on that subd thread over the years, not only enabling myself but also alongside many others, getting some sort of handle on this hard surface caper B)
You are so good at making hair! Thank you for sharing so many resources on this, it can be really hard to find details on how people make good hair, at least from my experience
It's the NFT shit again. So many people wanted to make a game with NFTs in it. The issue isn't creating a game with NFTs, that's the easy part. The hard part is making a good game in the first place, which is what even seasoned companies struggle with.
