Convert it to editable poly and make planar by x. Ought to be a little 'x' button right under/beside make planar. -

You seem to lean quite heavily on "EA does this, EA does that". I don't think that's the best idea, in the face of people telling you "well, other places do X". If multiple people are telling you various places do X, and you're insisting on doing EA's Y, aren't you setting yourself up to be less suitable to more than… -
