mirror the animation by parenting to a dummy and position constrain new bones to the mirrored ones. or you can do it properly using complicated maths -

Solved, under parent options had "Add instance" selected for some reason. Why would you ever want to select this option? -

you could try using an extra joint for the elbow itself ... and use joints parented to the main joints to tidy deformation. this maya , or max? -

Mel locator to joint script
Hello, I'm trying to write a Mel script that would give me the ability to creator locators equal to the amount of joints selected and then parent then to joints? is that something doable in Mel? thanks ed -

Well, not sure if this is the right method but i just unparented the swingarm bone from the root, set its orients to 0, re-parented it back and all is well.
