Mudbox's default lighting was annoying me. :D It's looking better. Still can't put my finger on what's bothering me. Perhaps once I get some vegetation and plants around the base, it will look better. I made the top part droop over more and it really does help out alot though! -

Sometimes it might be needed to edit mipmaps, especially for alpha maps on vegetation. Thing is, to be able to edit a mipmap. you must export your texture to DDS. Open the DDS, edit the mipmaps, and export again. (right?) But this sucks because the DDS will have double compression. Unless there's some lossless DDS export… -

This, seriously. When I did a vegetation heavy project recently, I spent a solid day running around outside and gathering photosource. I brought a white sheet of plastic and a white bedsheet with me as a neutral background so masking would be easier. Then I ended up going 100% handpainted, but MAN, the reference was great.… -
Re: How many polygons should a "game-ready" assets have?
A better question would be to ask how many do you need? 90 000 polygons used to create a single piece of vegetation seems a lot less reasonable than to use those 90 000 polygons to create say a key character in your game. I think it all comes down to whats reasonable or not. -

I really love this sort of stuff. A couple of things that jumped out at me. On the last image, the pipes on the walls, are their UV seems out there bein' all visible? Just spin those round. Also the plants seem to be the weakest texture of this whole thing for me. But props for trying to do vegetation in a one-texture… -

Hi I am curious of how to make translucency maps like in quixels library. . Having done some Photogrammetry myself, I tried to make some foliage assets with bluescreen. When scanning vegetation, how do one produce a translucency map? I also wonder how they make their normal maps for their assets. Any one have any answers… -
