I don't consider myself a vehicle artist, let alone a shipwright, but I have some some thoughts... At a glace I kind of saw your sloop as more of a ship-in-a-bottle model than a gigantic ship that a crew of people will ride on. And that might be due to the DOF of the shots and it could very much be what your were going…
I just tested the script. I noticed the same points Ace Angel come up with. You might want to put the install instructions in the notepad file though as it was seriously making me feel like an idiot hahah. "I'm sure I remember how to run MS files in max..." Anyway I did a basic flow map to check out the tool itself. First…
Hi @Fabi_G Thank you for your patience. I really appreciate your support. I can share the specific model if needed, although I’m not sure it’s necessary. I did some reading and experimented a bit with baking at 2x resolution and then downscaling and normalizing the normals. The results are definitely much better now. See…
I quickly scanned over that, I can't see what the smoothing groups you have specifically set up on purpose actually are. Only time that is apparent you have intentionally set up the smoothing on the mesh is when you removed the smoothing and have a completely faceted model. Unless you want a completely smooth shaded model…
Thanks a lot for the comments and critique. I've Made some progress - not much in the past few days. Been working on the lighting trying to add a bit more interest and contrast and fix some of the issues I was having. I'm not entirely loving the current light scheme but I think it is working better than the last one. As…
I am just curious . Read somewhere that games shifts off license agreements with gun manufacturers . Seeing them as a bad PR "promoting guns to minors". Thus why the exact precision and model which would require licensing for sure ? I think I saw an assault rifle with cocking handle on the opposite side a while ago vs…
I recently read a book titled "Game Art: Creation, Direction and Careers". It's written by Riccard Linde, a fellow artist with 10 years experience. This book is perfect for anyone who is at a level where they're ready to break in to the biz, or have recently just done so. I wrote a review of the book on my site and really…
I agree. It's been a good read. I think I kind of fall in the area of sticking to the more standard PBR guidelines, only because I feel like you should know the rules before you break them. Starting a material off following said rules, then applying the artistic liberties to really fine tune the material. But the whole…
You have to start to learn how to break down these materials and experiment on your own. Experimenting, messing around with your maps, and just trying stuff is the best way to learn. You are not going to get all the information you need from the internet. Unfortunately I do not have time to make you another example, but…
