Hi, I focused the face close-up details and I made some experiment with Arnold render using alShaders in Maya. The peach fuzz was made with XGen. The face details was sculpted in ZBrush and I painted the SSS textures in Mari.
Thanks for the vid SS, really appreciated You seem to be the one to learn from, these days You seem to have a neat, simple yet cool looking SSS shader here... I need to look into that stuff oone day. Laterz!
made a fair bit of progress on the hair rendering, seems like heavy transparency really improves the look. need to go back and finish the hair groom now, and them maybe go for the micro details on this one. maybe a tad more sss also
Update 24/7/2020 (Nighttime) : Worked on more of composition and added a few stuff, played with SSS for candles, and spread the geo out and change the floor mat based on @Rurouni Strife 's recommendation! Good help man thankyou!
Just thinking out loud here, but if you are using SSS on the fabric, maybe going back to the scullpt and exaggerating the hardness of the crease folds -- a bit beyond what you see in the reference -- may be necessary to give that area a nice crispness.
I think it's time to add specular and gloss maps (and SSS maps if you have that type of shader available) to the skin. If you're not baking normals from high-poly this is probably about as good as you're going to get the normal map
Ok thanks yea that seems to be working better. So why is it that we use displacement for skin textures and bump maps for fabric etc? They seem to be around the same level of detail. Maybe the SSS and stuff wouldn't work with a bump map?
I'm agree with Texelion but apparently it's hide when hairs are visible. I think there is a little bit too much "wax" on your SSS shader. Did you try to make a map? Your skin texture looks really great!
Hello everyone, I started working more on the default arnold SSS shader, pretty much focused my effort on the skin. not satisfied yet with the skin, there are some weird artefacts in the displacement I need to fix and refine the skin texture as well.
The composition is striking, love the expression and subject matter. Colours are great too! But what I think it's really hurting for is more tinkering with the SSS - both on the skin and the apple, possibly some more specular breakups/bump variation on the forehead. Keep it up!
