these properties arent allways going to work for all elements. i checked the vray docs online and they dont say anything about maxscript interfaces to render elements. im sure they are there but they arent documented. without being able to see how to interface with the elements i cant really help.
Just under the banner, Click User CP then on the left hand side under Settings & Options select Edit Options. Then scroll right to the bottom to Miscellaneous Options text box and change the Message Editor Interface drop down menu to Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing. -caseyjones

I found out they were in "super secret ninja surprise mode" only. You have to go to User Control Panel>Edit Options> Then under Message Editor Interface use Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing and then save changes and when you go back to the forum you'll have emoticons. Some reason it's not defaulted.
It really depends on the application in my opinion. Drawing/scupting in zbrush/photoshop is no problem, but due to the way the interface is setup I find the tablet to be a pain in the ass in the navigation department for Maya/Max. Mostly I use 3d coat for retop and UV mapping. However, for sculpting, Zbrush is def. the way to go. Just learn the interface, then everything becomes a breeze. Play with the interface, customize it to your liking. Once I customized my canvas, all problems I was having went away.
it's a pretty common UI framework. probably makes developing interfaces for addons that much easier. relieved to see they didn't go and add icons on all the rollouts everywhere. so it would seem that if you kill the ribbon with fire like i always have then you can still work with a reasonable interface.
