Started on LightWave at the start of 2002 (I think) with a lecturer at college showing me the basic controls... and I went from there, absorbing a ridiculous amount of stuff from lurking on Polycount and working on mods.

Here is a small kitbashed (from another, bigger model) Mech for our game. The rigging took me almost as long as the Kitbash :D (about 2 hours) 25 000 Tris here...
Not sure how old, but it was for a HL1 mod so between 98 and 2002? Now I animate 9-5 (should really put some animation up sometime) and do environments on the side

The default on a Makerbot is 0.2 mm which gives you some fairly noticable layering, although there are some tricks you can use to improve that. 0.1 would still have visible and tactile layering, but should allow for some pretty fine details.
