Great work, guys! I love seeing everything posted here. Helps keep the inspiration up. Between all the support posts I make and the other stuff I do for Quixel, sometimes it's nice to finally finish a project: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/46YPn
Going with the existing IP can get you into legal issues. You can be inspired by Dredd but don't put anything on a weapon that is directly copied from Dredd. Don't get discourage, you can still make a great desing with your own original idea.
@ExcessiveZero , good point. I thought it was worth posting because a lot of posts on here seem to be of the opposite problem of "how do I stay motivated?" or how others would find inspiration in the ether. These books aren't a substitute for application, but they are good reminders about mindset.
@melli06 Glad you like it ^^ Here's my newly remade left robotic arm. The underlayer is mostly inspired by... not a direct copy from the concept art. I took some liberty with it. Gonna clean up, and detail some more. Then retop/hardsurface the outer layer.
@josh_lynch has inspired me to try to finish a Substance Designer tutorial, so I am taking my District 9 Arc Gun, recreating its materials in Designer, and will then go back and make a tutorial of the process. Here are the early stages of working on some of the materials.
Thank you ! MOI (Moment Of Inspiration) is a CAD modeling application, with advanced boolean functions, very very user friendly, with a top polygon export function (n-gons, tris, quads/tris, amount of polys).MOI's father is also RHINO's one. MOI: http://moi3d.com
I pulled my inspiration from the original which was hodge podge of pixels in a side scrolling beat em up with not much info, leaving lots to interpretation. Everything that came after that, while interesting, wasn't what I desired out of this. The target was realistic and tough.
I have to admit, it's quite inspiring to hear you're from Wee Norn Iron too, and working in games. Something like that is my dream Job (even though it's extremely stressful). I think I know a few online courses that will help me out.
Thanks! I'll render the progress and see what that looks like, I didn't think of that. That's a great concept, I hadn't seen that before. If I have time I might try to use that as inspiration with the head and body shape. If not, I will do in the future! Thanks for the response :)
UPDATE Just made a ton of changes to the textures on this. I had a ton of fun revisiting a franchise that many of us hold as an inspiration. Here is a link to the file. Here is a link to my art station as well. https://www.artstation.com/artwork/m314-motion-tracker-alien-scanner
