I found that it really just comes down to having your low poly modeled well with enough geo, good chamfers,unwrapped properly, and control edges in the right places…
Hi pmiller001, thank you for the kind words. To answer your question though, it is a little bit of both. If I have the time to go out and take pictures myself, I do, but most of it is just photosourced. I frequent cgtextures.com and mix and match some of their textures and then work on them in photoshop.
Once HD Geo kicks in, you have to divide through HD instead of the standard way.
