Concept Artists Responsibilities: The concept artist will work with the leads, senior artists, existing concept artists, and will help drive the style and direction of the demo environments and game characters, giving the demo visual direction before final environments and characters are modeled and textured. During…
I have a maxscript bound to a hotkey that lets me toggle the visibility of my currently selected modifier in the stack...but it won't update the eyeball icon unless I interact with the command panel in some way. I did find this little snippet: colorMan.reinitIcons() that does the job, except it also automatically reselects…
Subdivision sketch: it's not the topology. One question that's asked over and over is: "How can this shape be attached to a curved surface?" At some point, often when just learning how to model, most artists end up asking this question in one way or another. The short answer is: just match the segments when possible and…
Thanks @Benjammin - ive only worked remote only studios, so wasnt sure. That makes sense. Currently in my studio we have a mix of slack/discord and our discord is set up similar to yours, except we dont have desk channels. Good to know how other studios work though. I wonder if studios prioritize hiring remote or hybrid…
I just baked a segment with edges given the 'harden edge' option in maya and the normal map came out much better, im slightly confused however but after watching some videos if I understand correctly I should smooth all the edges except the hard ones? I was under the impression you wanted to smooth the entire mesh.
cartoony walks will follow bouncing ball closer than stylized walk, a realistic one will follow bouncing ball even less. I don't think strict adherence to the bouncing ball exercise is a good idea, forget it entirely if necessary. In a walk the person never leaves the ground so I think the bouncing ball analogy is not all…
Did you try Win 8? You tell it to go right to the desktop at boot and you don't have to deal with anything Metro. It's like a streamlined Win 7 then. I've been using it since release and I had about 0 contact with anything Metro or any metro apps except for the redesigned Start screen (aka the new start button), which…
Thanks rob for the suggestions thus far. I have been looking at the hl2 facial system and even read a shor tut on its morphing system. The problem I see with a bone rigged face versus a morphed version as far as muliple normal mapped creation. If you are creating your normal map in a outside program like zbrush, going back…
Thanks guys! Everything in there is still blockout-WIP stuff, especially textures, with maybe the single exception of the railing thing. I'm trying a tactic where I take the whole scene blockout fairly far with temp stuff (including simple painted designs on some temp textures) before I tackle individual props in zBrush.…
