Hey Guys and Gals, I have been a long time reader but this is my first post: I was watching Jesse Cox play Uncharted 4 - sadly I don't currently have a PS4, so I can't play the game myself. I have to say, it's really amazing in pretty much every regard so big "good job" to all possible Uncharted 4 devs reading this. Anyway…

To clarify, this thread will be replaced by the official WIP / Challenge thread on Wednesday, November 1st, once the vote count is in and…

Pretty good so far. It could use a rim light and an image-based-lighting sphere to get some reflections and show off what you have done with the roughness layer. Right now it's hard to tell if there is even much of a roughness layer. Also that T-junction where the beam that's holding up the globe meets the table's ring…
+1 to everything Brian mentioned, and additionally: check out other environment artist's portfolios. You're up against pros here now. Your presentation needs to be current and appealing, it looks a bit outdated. Work on your lighting and basic FX. Probably present on a darker slightly tinted background imho but thats less…
Last week I ended up being a day late with the update and this week I'm posting the update a day early since I'm going on a mini-vacation this weekend. This week I got a lot of feedback from the fine folks in "Ryan Benno's Game Artist Hangout" Discord server. They suggested adding some spotlights in to emphasize the door…
Thanks for the critiques and advice everyone. Very helpful and much appreciated. I set out to do a "sci fi corridor scene". A project showing a corridor leading to a room. Displaying high to low poly modeling, modular work flow, a handful of hero props, shared textures etc. My take on it was building it with in an old…
Here's an alternative: Begin with the Zbrush standard base mesh. Use the move brush to reshape it to fit your needs, and save out a copy. If you want to reduce the initial polygons, you can "reconstruct subdivisions." If you need some custom topology, you can edit it with zModeler. But for a normal human, the zbrush base…
Good :) Do future students a favor and let your Dean know that the program should leave their students with more portfolio items. This actually worked at my school, so, be a hero and pave the way for change. Having said that though, I only used one school project in my portfolio because the rest showed my noobness way too…
Yeah, you should credit the artists by name and link to their upload of the piece where possible. The icon navigation is really hard to understand to be honest, at least subtitle them but it would be better with just the words I think. It looks too cluttered and I got stuck for a second trying to get back to the main page.…
