One thing I've wanted to write, just so people that haven't thought of it can get a decent idea of how far this can go (and why I was so excited about it when rasmus posted it up), is splitting up a single gradient into multiple ranges, to allow for colour usage variants - Valve did something similar with the L4D2 gradient…
started up a new IG for a project I have in the works. Going to be a mixture of game art, tutorials, industry advice and pretty screenshots from whatever I am playing atm. https://www.instagram.com/polygonacademy my views on IG are it should be the place people are documenting their journey/process and artstation should be…
Hi everyone, I'm currently planning a 3D environment that fuses the dramatic natural setting of Petra (Jordan) with the ornate and rich Levantine architectural style. The vision is to build a narrow canyon path that leads to a large, impressive mosque structure, with a bazaar carved into the sides of the canyon walls along…
Hi I need some advice/pointers on how best to approach torn fabric and fabric strands for games. I'm currently making a ragged robe asset for an enemy, so there's going to be plenty of rips and tears over it. This isn't something I've done before, so I just want to make sure I'm going to approach this right. :) I have the…
My knowledge is a bit dated and there are probably aspects were getting a bachelor helps, like if you want to get into teaching yourself down the line or get government subsidies for education if that's available in your country (or simply to get a breather for a while), but since lots of your skills will transfer, I'm not…
i think i see what you're trying to accomplish - you want to add some randomness into your time function so that it doesnt just go up linearly? if so then i dont think there's any way of doing that with a texture. time is just a single value and a texture is a 2d map of values. try combining other types of inputs with your…
There also is a peace you can draw from, knowing that you have a plan and that if shit hits the fan you're not caught with your pants around your ankles trying to run a marathon. You know that part in a movie where everyone is standing around asking what the hell are they going to do to defeat the big evil thing? And that…
Hey man. Great progress so far. A couple of points I'd like to offer opinion on. 1. Shapes inside the robe. There's a juicy shape at the waistline on the concept, it works well with red ribbons and mirrors top chestplate edge. it's also very much in line with the character's sharp look. I don't know if you were planning on…
Yeah, agree. I just used a free texture from here. It would be better to have regularly spaced bricks, and also a more consistently-spaced grout to use for the edge bits. Also you'll want to model the black window frames. If the white frame isn't there, a nice little trick is to tile the brick around the edge like this.…
Ok, well I ran into a problem with the dDo, where its taking this normal and saying"oh lets occlude this" and I dont want it. Super easy fix, but I thought I would at least post what I accomplished until now. There is also geometry issues on export, I just need to clean up the model a bit, with speed comes dirtiness. So…
