As the OP says, I wouldn't be so quick to assume on the smoothing point. It is is undeniably a different workflow, but there are a crazy host of options for tweaking meshes (creasing/smoothing etc) in rollouts, which combined with zb's ability to handle a lot of shapes quickly that would be time consuming for even veteran…
I recently tried max 2015 to test the new quad chamfer. My initial thought is they broke viewport navigation. It seems pretty much unusable and several threads online show other people have the same issue. Hope that's something you guys get fixed quickly, as there's plenty of cool stuff that was added otherwise.
Thanks alot for your feedback. The scene/light setup isn't yet finished and I will definitely have to put some more time into this. I'm currently working on get the assets done as quickly as possible (including the items on the table^^), so I have then everything in engine and can start the scene set-up. (Deadline is end…
Spent some time reworking the face. In a place now where I feel like Im happy with the style and the big shapes. Quickly pushed the existing hair into a place that made more sense and looked more like the way she actually wear her hair. Some clipping issues with the glasses which are an easy fix.
Thanks guys... I'll try to post up how I do my renders. It's actually quite simple and renders quickly on my rig at least... Streaming now at http://www.livestream.com/thejessemoody Join me, listen to music, tell me I suck and watch me break 3ds max over and over again...
http://www.gc-academy.net Can't say I have experience with this group but the rigging class is taught by rich damiant soo... I'm also looking for more info on rigging. Specifically the setting up of control rigs. Also I'm not sure you should dismiss max so quickly. It has features like skin wrap
Oh yeah I did a few prop "concepts" that were paint overs of quickly blocked out models of things I imagined to be from the "Dry" world. One of the ideas I had was that the soldiers carried and wore little talismans and reliquaries that contained living plants to remind them of living energy while they fight the undead…
Clip Pro Studio is a pretty awesome tool--I love how crisp and smooth its pen tool is, and you can really quickly get very smooth painted textures with the watercolor brush, if I recall. It reminds me a lot of Paint Tool Sai, and is just as fun to use...certainly worth 15 bucks.
Really nicely done. I love the mood, and the textures and color palette are great. The lit fog(?) coming up from the ground near the interior doorways looks like it fades off too quickly though, and it's reading strangely to me, like there are floating stone tiles or the pieces of ground underneath them are missing or too…
This article has some good examples (pictures and explanation) https://80.lv/articles/tiling-textures-in-game-environments/ Essentially just tiled textures that contain multiple strips of "trim" and other details that you can quickly UV bits of geometry to in order to get extra detail in your scene without uniquely…
