I'm having trouble with mine at the minute. I understand that its handpainted; but do I sculpt anything or is it merely lowpoly-handpainted textures to emphasise any detail? Also; is there any tutorials out there for handpainted textures - this is my first attempt!
Yeah, exactly! The bevels you have would in a best case scenario take up 1 or 2 pixels on the normalmap and look aliased from a distance. There will be some more disparity between the lowpoly and highpoly but it should work fine anyway.
It depends on what I'm making. If I make a organic prop - like a rock or treetrunk - I'll just start in zbrush. But if I'm making something mechanical like a piece of machinery I'll usually start in Maya with a basic lowpoly mesh.
Here is my latest update on Jill: Lowpoly and bakes are finished. Texturing and modelling of smaller details is next. And here is the current update on the Spencer Mansion entrance for the background: Let me know what you think, c&c is welcome ;)
Hey Tim, nice work! I specially like what you did with Tay's hair. It's just a watertight lowpoly baked from a Zbrush HP and using shiny roughness/specular maps, or did you do anything crazier on it?
Thanks for the clarification. I've given up on that workflow (maybe wouldn't be an issue if I had an industry spec machine?). My lowpoly is symmetried so I'm hoping Painter will accept a symmetried highpoly for the normal bake. -thanks for the scripts btw!
looks like you get a cleaner mesh. If you go straight to the retopo you will see the lowpoly geo in the final. a six edge cylinder will stay a six edge cylinder even if the high would have more that six sides.
I actually agree with Ott on this one. Zhu's design could look SOOO cool as a high poly piece, baked down to a lowpoly. It'd make for an amazing portfolio piece as well. His design just screams highpoly goodness!
Phew Finished Lowpoly, still i can see some topology errors that i will fix next week. Im so happy cuz i got the polycount around 8k even after duplicating all the feathers :D
Hi again, I am finished with this piece, it was my first highpoly. I am not sure if you guys think this is worth spending time on baking the normals to the lowpoly and getting it textured. If not I will move on, thanks for your time and interest.
