35mm = 52.5mm on Nikon(1.5) crop, so it would be a very good general purpose lens, but you should also get the 50mm if you're interested in portraiture at all, as a 35mm lens is too wide to be particularly attractive for portraiture. You could probably cut out a few of the loops on the part at the bottom of the holder, where as the two above it are squared out. Not a major issue tho.
