Revert to a driver before the latest. Worked for me. I've had this issue on several machines at work with the latest nvidia driver. Both in Maya 2010 and 2011.
On 2010, but it's been there since the dawn of time, so I assume it is still there in 2011 - utilities tab > bitmap/photometric paths. If the button isn't there, check in "more..."

I am exporting from Maya 2013 using the existing FBX plugin forcing it to export as ASCII FB 2012. Any idea on the smoothing issues here? Exporting for UDK ;)
