Well.... I actually might be moving to NYC in January. 8) I applied to an art school in Manhattan for a Spring transfer. They said it was a 3-4 week turn around for the application... but today happens to mark the end of the 4th week. So tomorrow I'm going to call. I wouldn't be too anxious except that I got accepted to…
If you can code yourself then its not as useful, but you can definitely still make use of it. It's great for AI since it basically creates State Machines with actions inside of them, you can use the heaps of actions that come with it and also create your own actions to drop into the UI pretty easily. From what I understand…
Yeah there is a performance hit, but I did a small test between wait times for Painter and DDO. Using Painter in 4K res was just as bad due to the shorter wait times but much higher frequency of waits. Turning a layer on, painting a stroke (actually, applying first point of a paint stroke was a wait and then lift up from…
Just curious from a job standpoint why would you want to stay in KC? That has to be even less of a hub for CG related jobs than Ohio... you're going to have to move eventually anyways. Personally if your parents are supporting you and not forcing you into finding a job right now I'd take full advantage of that. Being able…
Hey everyone, I'm new to 3ds Max 2012 (and generally 3ds Max past 3ds 7) and I'm having serious issues applying textures/bitmaps to selected polygons. I'll select the polygon I want to apply the bitmap to, go into the material editor, make sure both the material slot I want to use and the polygon have the same map channel,…

And then…
By "applying noise", do you mean you hit the "Apply to Mesh" button? Noise doesn't require extra geometry to preview, but actually applying it to the mesh would require enough subdivisions to handle the detail. And again for the zooming, can you describe the steps you're taking to zoom? One can't tell from a cropped photo,…
Problem solved, I guess if you uv map something with a square texture applied and then apply a rectangular texture it will stretch, but since I had rotated the uv's 35 degrees they got stretched when I applied the new texture, this caused the skew action and it was a matter or rotating and scaling in various axis to get it…
I did IT for a company that used all Macs, I was told later I got the job because all the other applicants where afraid of apple products. I said I never used them but was willing to learn, it was the easiest job I ever had.
Hi! Assuming that first screenshot is a height map, I would expect it looking like that, as it captures the the difference between lowpoly and highpoly mesh. The distance to the highpoly will be larger at the center of a face, hence the facetted/ lowpoly appearance. Applying the height map, you would then need to choose…
