Not exactly informative how they do all the rocks, but Mak Malovic worked on some rocks and is the Lead Env Artist https://www.artstation.com/artwork/Pwnn4 Might be worth asking the question to him on Artstation. I thought about doing that myself several weeks ago, they are very gorgeous rocks/cliffs
some kind soul uploaded the day 3 pixologic demo, in case you missed it. [ame]www.youtube.com/watch?v=r01toIcnFl0&list=UUz9ClJrjuztSZP-mLQl42dA[/ame] That array thing might be huge for env work and tileable sculpting, been really pining for a better workflow that allows for quick concepting.
cycloverid, I am a lighting / textureing artist who has been focused on the feature animation industry but seeing this has really shown me that games have def. progressed into the cinematic realm. This piece has inspired me to looking to being an Env. Artist for games. Thanks for creating. ..oxy..
Bump for promoting my own channel ! http://www.twitch.tv/froyok I'm doing a lot of stuff : characters, programming, env Art and playing some games. For the moment I'm talking in French but if I see someone on my chat talking another language I will try to talk in English. :)
Looking great! The only thing that sticks out to me is that the grass could be a tad bit darker in my opinion. either that or adding some more colour to the bricks to balance the the grass and then use post process to desaturate and tweak the whole env. to your liking. Can't wait to see more of this!
Well it looks like Maxis gave their first major update to the base game today. They added back the ghost life state with the ability to possess objects and a few other odds and ends like Star Wars costumes (totally unexpected, but cool nonetheless) http://help.ea.com/en/article/the-sims-4-updates/ I'll give this to them,…
Screenshots would help. One of the env artists describes some of the reuse strategy here https://www.artstation.com/artwork/3nVPB Mostly tiling assets, with a few hero pieces. So then its up to talented world builders to flesh out the dungeon blockouts and make things look just unique enough.
Varies from studio to studio. Some places have only prop guys. At least for us here, our prop guys are more junior or less experienced env artists who dont have a lot of experience building scenes in shipped games. Doesnt mean they wont down the road though.
I just do env. but i assume same principles apply..... I do a med rez. From that i extract off geo to make my High then use med again to make my low from. If you dont get too crazy it should all line up.
Hi Andrew! I'll talk a little bit more about the overall direction of your environments and props. Let's start off with the edge-shader you have on your work. Usually It's fine using an outline shader however its' really tricky to get something look really good with it and you need to take a lot of things in consideration…
