Well I believe the hose should be ok. They just specified in the contest guidelines that as long as it has a good thickness then it will print fine, So nothing like thin strands of hair or anything but I made the hoses as thick as they are just to make sure they would be printable. I also use the default black nibs, but I've taped a sheet of plastic (one of those computer-printable sheets for projection) on the surface, and made a rustic glove out of a sock so that my hand slides comfortably (a home-made version of this).
