As someone already suggested already a couple of ways to improve the already great smart extrude of Max the most popular is for the negative extrusion to produce holes instead of currently flipped polygons and bad geometry. You can vote here on this idea : Smart Extrusion - negative direction make holes! - Autodesk…
Had that for a while (and seen some other people have problems with it). Try downloading all the service packs/patches (whatever the name of those are at autodesk), that solved it for me. Someone else fixed it by turning one off his videocards (he had dual gpu's). Hope one of those solves it for u.
I figured it out if anyone cares lol. You need to delete the file 3dsmax.ini if your using windows vista like me it hidden in C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2010\enu Just delete the file and max makes a new one. and your preferences are gone.
thanks for the advice guys, i've gotten the model down to under 350 polys now. and also thanks for the warning about the student software, i'm going to try and find some places that sell max cheaper than what autodesk is offering. Does anyone know any good places to look?
The thing with 3ds max is almost of the commands are listed in "customize UI" they just have weird name. The trick is to look for them in specific group. For some obvious reasons, autodesk decided to call it "TV element mode" instead of some thing logical like "UVW element mode" or "UVW select element"
have you considered starting up a student edition, allowing universities to start adopting it? that's probably one of the biggest reasons for uptake of Autodesk products vs anything else at this point. it's like smoking... we all know it's bad for you, but they get to you early enough that you struggle to break the habit!
Quadro 3700. Have tried latest drivers and also Autodesk certified ones. Sometimes in the same scene I can have some Mia materials with textures displaying fine and other Mia materials also with textures displaying pitch black. So I assume others don't have this issue?
First question: Did you restart max? Second question: Did you restart your computer? First suggestion: Delete your .ini file (In max 9 and 2008 it is in your user directory (/user/Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\, previous versions in your install directory)
When I try loading JIStyles_skinshader_R3.fx in Max 2009's DirectX Shader material, I get the red wireframe... C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2009\memory(375,14): error X3000: syntax error: unexpected token 'VertexShader' I'll email Joel, but has anyone else got it to work in Max 2009?
Have you moved to mavericks yet? I have a mac with bootcamp so am wondering if I should move to mavericks now. The multiple display is quite interesting and am wondering if all the apps are compatible. Autodesk, zbrush, topogun, crazybump, etc.. I searched and most of them seem compatible but are you facing any glaring…
