I'm with jesse on DeepUV there. If my UVs are extreme, like huge chunks for minimizing seams, UVHelp or Max's relax will twist some of the edges around and around, but DeepUV handles them OK. If the mesh has acute angles in geometry space, Max/UVHelp both give me trouble.
thanx for the tips! i did a little work on it. this is how it looks now http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g210/Jalechah/254man.jpg is that what you were talking about? i hadnt used the relax mod before, so that was new to me. also the poly count is down to 254
Smirnoffka - I get the EXACT same treatment. My face apparently looks evil and pissed off when I'm just relaxed and calm (or I guess even pissed off, when I'm working). I just concentrate a lot. I have a lot on my mind! :)
the way of getting anything through to "the people" is through excitable reports of your actions, from the tv and papers, local and national. "Breaking news : greenpeace release a clear and concise statement of intent! Relax while a vaguely attractive news anchor sits back and reads it to you". Not gonna happen.
You might want to repost the images with more of the character and less of the background. It's hard to tell much rom those images. but the thumb position looks very harsh - have a look at the position of your own thumb when your hand is relaxed - it's almost 90 degrees to the rest of the hand.
I haven't worked on this model for quite some time but I have finally made an update. Polished the head and body, as well I have started on the clothes. I still need to put the hands and fingers in a relaxed state also, and the wrists look like they could be a bit thicker.
I'm not a character guy, but like anything else it helps to look at UVs done by others. For example... http://area.autodesk.com/tutorials/street_cop_workflow_by_mashru_mishu?o=print Also, Pelt can only work with sufficient seams. If there's an area that refuses to relax properly, it probably needs another split to help…
And how would I make that copy be the UV's for the other face? EDIT: Can you show me with images what you mean? The actual model I am working with is a gun stock. the left side is already all stiched togteher. Hitting relax just further disorts the shape.
Regarding price : I am aiming for it to remain 150$ since this was the cost of the first grey one. As for the pose, Messiah : I tend to agree! I am working on the male at the moment and this one will have a natural, relaxed art model pose. That way the male and female statues will complement each other :)
Unless you're modeling a fully naked character, you'll have quite a few places where you can split the mesh into various subtools in order to get even more subdivisions out of them. Other options include local subdivision, local retopology with zremesher, and the edgeloop tool + relax.
