I think its the opposite. 20 basements are boring when i have a light switch, but one without can be better than the 20 combined. Its a matter of details which are important. In a time every third AAA game comes with Open World the m² are not important.
Not necessarily recommending this agency (cuz I don't know them) but saw this job posting where it says it's open to everybody. Pre made Asset Artist The Netherlands http://opmjobs.com/job/pre-made-asset-artist-the-netherlands-attractive-salary-benefits-aaa-console-games/
It's a shame to see that nowadays games are pretty much boiled down to... this! At least the so called "AAA" titles, but there's a lot more to choose from out there, you just need to know where to look, we can't let ourselves be blinded by the media and what the marketing trow at us.
I will be attending if I can get the time off work. But I'm moving to the Seattle area in the next month for a job with a AAA studio out there, so I'm not sure I will be able to get that much time off only a few months in to a new job. We'll see!
Not in itself, but that the company feels it's in such a position that fire saleing products that were $60 AAA games in some cases just days over a year ago for under $0.75 each (less than that when you deduct the charity donation and humble tip) is a worthwhile thing, that feels sad.
:P so what is the socially accepted way to behave at a large event showing off a game you're excited about? Silence and appropriate golf claps at opportune pauses? Gir: they have multiple studios and seem to always be hiring, this is beyond kickstarter, it's in AAA game development territory.
Developers whine because we all see shitty games that are successful due to marketing, branding, luck, or trends. I honestly don't want to see a good game and good developers flop for marketing reasons, but there's a reason AAA devs spend as much on development as they do on marketing.
