In Max, the functions that you will want to use are Remove and Collapse. Remove (Ctrl + Backspace) is usually used in conjunction with a loop selection. Collapse can work with vertices, and does quite well with Ring selections.
Guys if anyone finds out how to remove that AD trolling please post it. I think they will not remove it in next service pack but "fix" it so it will still be unusable but in whole new level.
I just remove edges where the mesh goes into triangles, which then makes them quads (if not a weird shape quad) and smoothing is sorted :) ie... remove the edges highlighted red Whisky

from what i remember its always been CTRL to select multiple edges in max. Maya is shift (inverse), ctrl+shift (add), ctrl (remove). Max is ctrl (add), alt (remove)
Just a small update I removed and redid the ceiling still have to texture it, did a few changes to the walls and removed the corner booth. Still got a lot to do but I'd appreciate some feedback.
the 73 backwards is the b213, reversed in the mirroring.. the unreal icon.. meh i'd just remove it.. I'd also make the tattoo a dragon and remove the lettering so it doesn't mirror incorrectly. Good stuff tho
I still cant understand why they have removed it from you tube. Autodesk even removed it from the Autodesk Vision Series playlist??!! they better not be reneging on this because of backlash butt-hurtery.
A quick and dirty suggestion for better topology: This should remove those two ugly poles deforming the edge, i think. I think having poles on along edges (in most cases) is not good for keeping them nice and clean.
