Hello community! I am a student working in game design focusing on 3D Modeling. We were tasked with designing and modeling our own magic staff. The instructions were to create a staff of any nature (I chose an ocean theme) that had to contain a gem of some sort. The polycount for the project was 7k polys. I want to better my skills and would like your feedback for a few things.
The staff is to be driftwood with barnacles and seaweed bulbs wrapped around it. The small jewelry parts are pearls and sea glass.
Does the overall design support the theme? What are some changes to add/remove if any?
Does the model hold a stylized art form? Does it need more details?
Is the model too simplistic?
Any other feedback is also welcomed! Thank you in advance for your help.

Really pushing it further is about how far you want to go. I'd maybe exaggerate a lot of the features, way more barnacles, make some more bulgey bits to really show them off. Then also, you have this great curvature, but only on one axis, I'd do it on both.
The big thing for me though, is the floating crystal, it's something you'd have to justify with FX and animation, and if there was quick motion, i'd be curious to know how you intend on that moving?
I agree with everything you've said. I definitely felt the movement was there, but it is all on one axis and could have benefited from being exaggerated more. The barnacles I was afraid maybe I would make too many and overbear the staff, something I hope to learn is when to push the design further and when to draw back. I never thought of how the crystal would move and interact when being animated. That's something I will definitely keep in mind for any future models. Thank you for the feedback!
