I'm currently in a competition called dare to be digital, where 8 teams compete over 9 weeks to create a game. We're lumbered with max 5 at the moment, and numerous bugs and improvements in later max versions are making us long for an upgrade. Unfortunately the version of renderware we are using isn't compatible with max…
Hello. I have problem with baking normal map in xNormal. I created model in 3ds max, then i exported low poly, high poly and cage. High poly have attached "stars".Then i import objects into xNormal and bake. Now i have problem, because normal map is distortioned. It's just test, because i have always problem with baking. I…
I tried maya years ago and enjoyed it.. But currently don't have the time to learn a new package or the budget right now. Can't use windows only as I am running some other stuff in oscar that I need. Guess I'll have to find another way.. How about rendering with light maps, any tutorials on that? Never had to do light maps…
I've come across a strange issue with elements on meshes..... I was playing around with my own face detach routine as you do :) It all works fine and as expected but it seems max has "pre-cached" the faces that make up each element for the purposes of speeding up subobject element selection so after the detach when you use…
Sorry for the weird topic title but I couldn't find any better way to describe it (which may be the cause I didn't find anyone with the same problem before). So it is my first time at a 3D character and I've unwrapped it in roadkill but when I import it back in max it imports as an editable mesh. (also it is scaled down A…
I've returned to using 3DS max after having switched, exclusively to Maya for a long time. Last time I used Max was something like version 3.0 and I don't know it anywhere near as well as Maya. I'm trying to get into some good workflow habits early on so I don't do everything the slow way for too long. * One thing I find…
So I've been working on this tool that allows a user to run maxscript files in succession on a selection of .max files, through the use of the command line interface that max offers. Now obviously I want to run max in the background, so i'm using the following statement: 3dsmax.exe -q -silent -mip -u MAXScript…
Greetings, So, I have sword, made a picture for you to see the topology in case it makes a difference. The polygons that represent the edges of the blade and all the triangles you can see in the picture are not planar to the z axis. I did planar z axis UV projection to all the polygons except for those which are parallel…
Both of these software seems to have a decent set of features for aligning objects together and placing objects on other objects. But what are both similarities and differences between them ? I dont use aligning too much so I recently went in more depth and test some out and I was not little surprised to see Maya can not…
The region you have marked in the normal map looks a little different than the other parts, I mean more "leveled". Is that just my impression or did you change something there? I do not really know much about it, but I remember there was once a problem with the gamma in 3ds max and normal maps. Try this (see image).
