I thinks its more of people learning how to better utilized the hardware we have. Cry Engine 3 for the consoles looks amazing, Xbox 360's average launch title
360 in Marmoset. I mainly wanted to practice setting up gloss maps etc.. It doesn't look great, but I think I'm starting to understand the concept better than I was before.
Interesting the demo only used 4.5 gigs of the 8 gigs of vram. The materials on that guy look great, I really just want to see a 360 turn table of a character in their new engine.

Here is one idea (and another) that could be a solution to the seaming. You seem to just adjust the fold angle inward to 360°. Still curious about creating the tight horizontal folds along the seams
