Well played around a bit more with lights, fog, and with some decals to add some more visual noise and variation. @Jammilburn I tried! messed around with the values and just gave up, made a quick gradient texture and using some polygons just made some fake light shafts! honestly I don't dislike the end result. I'm not in…
For what it's worth, this has been annoying me for the last few months so I did some digging and debugging and found out that the culprit was indeed the virtual shadow maps and that I could see the clipmap/mip level issues in the debug view. Directional light popping: Debug view: For the directional light, I edited the…
I ran into some hurdles that lead to me forgetting to post any sort of updates on the progress of this project, but at this point It's nearing completion. At this point my subscription of Substance Painter has ended, but I'm hoping the perpetual license for 2025 will release soon, rather than taking until midway through…
@5rettski Observation and speculation can be informative but sometimes the best way to learn is to actually recreate the effect by starting from first principles. It may be helpful to break this problem down into it's constituent parts then work through solving each of them individually to build up an understanding of the…

I haven't used Marmoset in a few years, but the end of this page mentions being able to setup a multi-pass material to create a clear coat effect. The image at the bottom also illustrates how you could cheat the effect with a second piece of geometry lying on top with a transparent shader…
I would say I agree with the bulk of what you stated. However it seems slightly slanted toward consoles only leaving out the PC market. Which I guess since it is shrinking we might as well ignore it? I have always taken the titles to mean how far removed the developer is from the end user. I like to think of it as "how…
At GDC there is often env art/level design stuff. One reason why there is not so many talks by env artists/level designers is that people dont pay as much attention to env art as they do to characters and guns. So its alot harder to be a "rockstar" as an env artist :)
@yashar98 Great job so far! Honestly everything @Fabi_G said is spot on, but also remember to take breaks! Walk away from the project for a little while and come back to it with a fresher mind! @PastyPict Better late than never! Keep going at it! Once you get more detail and form in there it'll come together for you.…
Yes, check Justin's link To sum it up: Contrast ratio doesn't really mean anything(different companies calculate it differently, its moot), it also has nothing to do with color accuracy contrast ratio is mostly a bullshot marketing stat. Its like cameras and megapixels, more doesn't really mean better. LED is just the…
