For pipeline stuff like wrapping an existing lowpoly unwrapped head base around a sculpt it's unbeatable. It's fantastic when you are working with hundreds of assets.
I'm going model the details on a plane and then use the conform compound object to wrap it around the grip. At least that's the plan. If all else fails NDO.
Thanks for the fast replies, I will try to use splines like suggested, using the 'paper wrap' as a low poly, and finishing it off in substance painter.
