Texturing practice on substance painter. Tried a dusty leather seat. Modeled in MAYA | UV in Unfold3D | Rendered in Maya with Mental ray Suggestions for improvement please
Theres also a couple free/cheap dedicated unwraping apps that might help too, i think unfold3d is one and roadkill(may have plugins for max/maya?) is another.
Oh! If you're using Maya 2016, they brought unfold3d in as a plugin. It's an incredibly robust unwrapping algorithm, I was using the standalone program for years, and the past couple of months have been a dream.
I use Unfold3d: select some edges + press break press auto. unwrapping = done But I am not using it anymore. 3dsmax and textools pwns every third-party software.
I like Polyunwrapper, it’s $40 and supports latest Max. The developer is also great with updates and feature requests. http://www.polytools3d.com/tools/polyunwrapper/index.html There have also been some updates to Max’s built in packer, with Unfold3d it’s actually pretty good now. Worth another…
[ QUOTE ] Use Wings3Ds unwrapping tools, guys! Doesn't get easier or faster than that AND it is free, and doesn't have the 'blender arwarkness'. [/ QUOTE ] Good tool yup but Unfold3D is easier and faster, better,stronger... imo...
Unfold3D Automatic (almost) uv mapping. Educational "Fraternaware" version available from site. The free version has limits, but I've found that what I get by unwrapping manually in Max I get in seconds with this.
High poly modeling finished. Time to make Low version and start most boring part Unwraping all these  For unwrap I will use Unfold3D. I think that is most functional and user friendly software for UV.
FatAssasin, be looking out this weekend for my latest video tutorial to go live on my site, it's on how to use Unfold3d. It might help ease the learning process for new hires or what not. Glad to know of another convert!
