I have one. I really like it. But I'm more into party/kiddy type games now that I have a child of my own. Some great games on the horizon for Wii though. Super Mario Galaxy Metroid Prime 3 Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles - Chrystal Bearers Harvest Moon Animal Crossing Spore (will probably be on all consoles though) Zack…
I must say that the crystal lion set idea is pretty unique. But yeh, I'd have to agree with hamstocks in that I have issues with the hand. The crystal hand idea is neat, almost looks dagon-like, but at the moment it just feels a little clunky/dull. I think the presence of fingers, whether they be crystal fingers or normal…
It might be worth looking into the differences between legacy and pbr shader math. By legacy I, of course, mean lambert/blinn models. I make shaders quite often, for effects and simple things. The approach I use for building up any material is from a simple set of nodes - the core shading, then expand from there. At that…
I can see you have a bit of it going on already, but you can exaggerate them more. Here's the crystal lizard from DS3. red = large crystalsblue = small crystals surrounding large crystals green = not all crystals grow in the same direction, some are stray crystals growing at odd angles.
Just use a Blinn in Maya. Here is a video (wording in Spanish, but all steps in 4.5 minute video can be seen in Maya) that may help with crystal. Just experiment to get the look you want. You can mimic the settings in Marmoset, Unity, etc. for a game engine render. He uses a Sampler Info node for a Fresnel Effect in Maya…
The treant version without flowers looks amazing. I'd maybe consider combining a few of the seperate crystals on his back into a giant, overgrown crystal which is integrated deep into his body, so part of the leaves above overlap with it and hide it partially from top view. The result could be that depending on the angle…
Now that I'm finally home and away from school, I have access to a working printer/scanner - meaning I can finally share my primary sketches for this contest and get my thread up and going. Unfortunately, school has given me little time to spare for this so I shall be a bit rushed. I haven't played League of Legends (which…
Looking good, however i do think the crystals could use some more angular shaping, they don't look very crystal like to me, they look like a carved piece of wood, can sorta see multiple curved carves along the length of the crystal which isn't a natural crystal look ;)
Thanks for feedback guys! I agree that the horns being the same color as the crystal detracts from the crystal as a focal point, but I do want to include some crystal in other parts of the turret ( wow I said crystal a lot). I also think the thing needs some armor, just to make it feel a little more sturdy and permanent.…
Sounds like a good plan with the tiling textures Omni if you want to abandon the Torchlight assets. I think they still could work tho if you keep at it :) I made some assets and since I already had books I made the bookstand with and then I gave the crystals a go. Was hard getting the crystals to look good and I might…
