Definitely fun. There are some bits that seem unpolished, but given the scope of the project and the size of the team, it's definitely impressive.
You can't tell by the screenshots, but this game is more 'Serious Sam' than 'Medal of Honor'. If you look at it like that, it's quite awesome.
I laughed out loud when I got to open up the machinegun on the musket-wielding confederates. I've always thought about what it would be like to take modern weapons back in time, and as far as I can tell, it is indeed as hilarious as I imagined.
I just finished it. I was impressed, though as slum said, there are things that need another layer of polish. The facial movements for example aren't so great....
The voice acting and overall sound is good though., and the guns have a nice feel to them. I was able to run it relatively lag free, my current specs are: dual 2.5 cpu, 2 gigs of ram, 8800gt, windows xp 32 bit home. I played at 1400 x 900, graphic settings on high, no AA and no ambient occlusion. I will be buying this game; and I'm still hoping there will be some sweet mod tools
So cool to be seeing my texture and concept work in an actual game at last! In retrospect I shoulda done a better job on the AR concept, though using it to massacre the Johnny Reb was certainly entertaining enough.
Also that has to be some of the most in-your-face exposition in a game ever.
Just gave it a go. I was kinda hoping for more of a "hey lets go back in time and F stuff up!" kind of feel. But it was pretty fun mowing down enemy soldiers with those overpowered guns. It'd be kinda cool if enemies after X kills in Y seconds would just turn tail and run from you, and the game became a sadistic "run down the cowering enemies with an uber weapon". But if you killed to many people maybe the time police would come and pwn you, it'd be an interesting dynamic.
What would be really cool is lots of unlocks in this game, like mini challenges for each level to unlock more powerful weapons and abilities, like any time you beat a level with only a pistol you get 5% more ammo in all levels, stuff like that. Earning the cool weapons and giving you a chance to go back to prior levels and PWN them even harder for even stronger stuff. It also makes perfect sense considering the time travel aspect.
Kinda bland just playing the levels with weapons and stuff that it's balanced for. Watching the videos for this I was really pumped to go back in time and just totally pwn with reckless abandon.
Of course it's just a demo and i have no idea what's in store for the future. About time someone made this premise into a game
Edit: I know i'm going overboard with these suggestions for a near finished game, but imagine if when you replayed a level, you had to kill... yourself! since you already played it and you would get in your own way. He'd be controlled by AI of course.

At one point there actually was a "coward" behavior in the AI, they would just get spooked and run. This caused a few problems because A. they would just run in some batshit direction and fuck up scripting and B. They would just disapear after a certain amount of time(performance reasons, so you dont have they guy running off the map or whatever). It actually was fun to chase guys down and try and kill them before the disapeared. I'm not sure if this functionality is in the game at all anymore tho.
I'm hanging to sus this game out, I'll be downloading it tonight when I get home.
Congrats to the 8monkeylabs crew (and any other Polycounter that worked on this) for getting a good game out, not to mention a sweet engine!
I'll be picking up the full thing.
congrats to the team! I just finished it, was pretty fun and ran pretty well on my 8800GT! A little problem I found, sometimes the subtitles are hard to read (the color and the background are the same)
Got the demo on steam, but haven't beat it yet (died a few times)
The game is pretty with setings pumped up, and the framerate is smooth, had to lower physx though)
I'm using the Xbox controller to play, and I noticed a small error; it says press left trigger to bring up the map, but so you know, left buttton brings it up.
Woot, the Polycount community got a mention in the credits!
I know it's against the spirit of the game, but I liked the Springfield Rifle the best. Having to consider whether to aim for the head or roughly take aim at an enemy and fire a bit faster is a good change of pace from other games.
It's odd, I generally think FPS games are a bit too mindless, but I played the demo thrice already and will probably play it some more. I can't tell what the appeal is, but it's there.
Oh, and I don't know what kind of voodoo magic was used, but the game loads faster than Notepad! Awesome!
They use a system that archives the files for each level, in the order that they will be loaded, textures already compressed etc. When they first put this in load times jumped from near 5 minutes, to about 30 seconds or less.
I'm glad people like the demo and Slum is right, it's a lot better taken in the spirit of a Serious Sam game rather than a Serious... Serious Man game.
I'm roadtripping to Dallas for Quakecon so I didn't even know this was coming though I can guess at which levels are in the demo... I've tricked you all into playing my levels. Suckers!
me likey... and yeah... load time is retarded fast... i spit my lunch up in shock... i wanted to kiss the guns while they were reloading they were so sexy.

It's a shotgun.

Download speed was really bad though, so will check it out tomorrow.
Yes, it will be on steam!
Great job. And steam sounds great, too

Impressive stuff!
But you guys should seriously consider making the model viewer public!

edit: tried multiple times on various settings.. it won't boot, can't even do the benchmark , gonna try again on my home pc.
BAH.
System specs?
BTW I WILL NOT DO TECH SUPPORT FOR THIS DEMO, DO NOT ASK! =D
Had enough of that with marmoset.
it's duo(or quad? doesnt say) core 2.66ghz, 3 gigs mem, gforce 9800 gtx
i liked it. it also ran on high settings on my pitiful computer and looked astounding, i'm impressed!
Ill be buying it come release.

looking forward for the game
Is there going to be a special edition with an art book or anything?

Yeah I noticed that too, quite awesome! Makes you wonder what the heck everyone else is doing that loads things so slowly.
