But isn't this #2, and escape from butcher bay being the additional content?
Gotta say when I look at the older game... graphics still hold up, so this is looking quite good
And yes, the menus were(are!) definitely super cool.

In addition to that, I did read that the additional campaign had grown so much, it could now be considered a full game, so I really don't know. I just wouldn't expect too much from said campaign in terms of length.

Looks like semantics really - is it a remake with a bonus campaign or a new game with a reworked original version added on? Either way, it's more Riddick and that can only be a good thing.
The new campaign packs "new game mechanics, full-game production values ... the works," according to Joystiq, with Big Download clarifying that the campaign is a "direct sequel" to the original and is immediately accessible upon booting the game.
The scope of the new campaign stems from the first-person shooter's recent publisher-related delay. After the game was dropped by ex-publisher Sierra, Atari picked the game up, a move that allowed for more than nine months of additional work.
Along with the new campaign, Athena will include a new multiplayer mode and an enhanced version of Starbreeze's 2004 release The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (PC, Xbox). Expect Dark Athena to hit PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 in spring 2009."

Looking forward to this...
You know, there's something very unfun about watching a movie about a protagonist who is invulnerable and so badass he's unstoppable...but playing a game as that same dude is an entirely different story!
... You already should have an xbox. You be missing out!
