How many tri's/textures can an Iphone/Ipod Touch handle on screen at once? What about limits for individual objects/characters ect for an RTS game (thatd have very few characters on screen) ?

Sorry, no details, but I do know the iPhone runs on the PowerVR chipset. They offer some tools here, not sure if they work with iPhone content specifically, but it's a start.

Texture wise the largest res you can have is 1024, and you can have up to 24mb total of textures in memory. Not sure about the polygons on screen, but I hear it's around 3000 tris? I'm guessing probably less than that.

sega has said it is more powerful than the dreamcast was... so i can imagine it can do a lot for a hand held.

I´using unity3d for developing a game for the iphone and the limit with this engine is 7000triangles on screen

I am afraid this is not easily possible, the current resolution for iPhone does not meet the requirements of 1024. But hopefully they could work on this.
