Maya's paint tool, or lack thereof!

Alritghy all, I've been rigging my character for about 3 hours now, using maya's paint tool to paint the weights... but it is just not sticking. Every now and then it keeps on bugging out and killing all the weight information, which means I have to go back and re-paint... only to run into the same issue 30 minutes later.

Is there any fix to this... or should I just go over to 3d max and do it the "MANLY" way!?

    Are you deleting history or something?
    Make sure if you need to delete history, use "delete non-deformer history" otherwise you will be deleting your skinCluster nodes too.

    Thanks MOP for the quick response, looks like that is working.

    Can anyone tell me why that is though? Just so I can understand more.

    History means ALL history. Deformers included, That way you can build your mesh one way, apply a lattice or other deformation to it, alter the mesh then remove the deformer but keep the new vertex positions.
    non deformer history is just the other history bits like your polygonal building operations.
