House model, Advice needed

Hey guys, im working on a series of house models for a project, ive come up with several mesh's but they dont seem to work for me, this is the current one ive attempted but still i feel its missing something or its not up to scratch.

Please give advice on how you model houses or what not, and let me know if its missing anything (apart from texture lol)

I see where you're trying to get to.
When I model more organic buildings I try to have as little symmetry as possible. I do bends, quirks and just try to avoid as many straight lines as possible. I get the feeling this building should have either a wooden roof or a hay roof, and if that's the case, you should try to add some slack to the middle of the roof.

But the biggest advice I have for buildings like this is to avoid symmetry.

Thanks for the advice, taking in what you said about symetry im noticing how streight everything is, ill have a crack at messing it up a bit, and re-post.

Okay ive taken in the advice and turned it into something i rather like, i knew i had a good model in me but i couldnt find it.

What are you modeling in to be curious. Also I like this A couple of things I am wondering though. Is it me or does the first floor look like 2 foot shorter then the second. Also is there supposed to be a third floor? I think the tower needs a door on it also. I like the look, I have been thinking about trying some olden houses.

well technicly speaking, the top bit of the roof is an atic, so if you remove the trangle bits they are the same size

, and if you already came to that conclusion about the top bit of the roof, its just the angle that makes it look bigger

What you've modeled looked pretty good, though a bit dark. You could still model in a lot more detail. I'd also make a props set of small cultural references, such as things that would be sitting around a house and other adornments. War has some great concepts of that.

I see what you mean, but its for a low poly project that has hired me, so props need to be done individualy, oh and i think i forgot to state what program i use, i use 3d max 9

use a decent lighting setup, a blueish tinted sky dome (1) and a single yellowish (opposite direction on colourwheel) direction light (0.5)

I also think the first floor seems smaller than the second. Mainly cause the window on the second is HUGE.. not sure if it can be called a window. Looks like a dangerous thing to open when you're tired on the morning. lol.

Also it seems small cause the door is kind of big too I think.. it almost ends where the second floor starts.

Well the way i have the interior planned, is that there aren't really a second or first floor, its one big room, but it has like a landing or like a balcony type thing in there, so the rooms are still connected and not seperated by a floor

the little bridge to the tower bothers me. maybe you need to put some arch under it, to make it look more structurally sound. It feels too fancy for the rest of the model. Perhaps a simply wooden causeway would be better?

ive actualy removed it and pushed the tower up against the house. i didnt like it either lol

I use the plugin E-light, its Creates multiple lights in a dome, all pointing to one spot, it puts shadows on the object, but unlike an omni, the shadows and lighting are less violent, if you get me, no one seems to like the effect of e-light. but i love it
