Well, I haven't done a challenge in a while, and I don't think I've ever modelled a real gun. I've done several not-real ones, but I feel like a change.

This one looked pretty cool to me. No idea if it's actually good or not, I know next to nothing about guns, I just like the mix of mechanical and organic shapes.

I found a couple of variants with different silencers/scopes/mounts, might try one of those instead.

Personally I disagree.. keep it mint condition, focus on shading. It looks like a weapon a total professional would use.

Reminds me of the silenced guns section 9 use in GiTS sac

Quick start on the highpoly mesh. I'm going on holiday for a week tomorrow, so I dunno if I'll have time to finish it before the deadline (not even sure when the deadline is to be honest!), but I'll probably try to finish it when I get back anyway, it's quite interesting and good practise.

So far I've just roughed out the stock/handle area, and the barrel/silencer, along with a couple of small things for holding the strap.

Hey Mop I'd be curious to hear how yo managed to maintain the integrity of that one big V curve creating the negative space of the main handle. Did you use some technique to draw a spline on the surface? It looks smarter than verts carefully placed by hand. Wireframe would be instructional :P

No, I'm just great at placing verts, haha

I thought about using a spline but in the end just box-modelled it. Didn't take very long - hand-place a few verts, chamfer the resulting edge loop - nice hard curve.

To give you a quick idea on the CX4 storm, it's essentially a Berretta 9mm pistol with enough mass to bring it into the submachine gun category. Seems to be a decent gun. Close combat, but it doesn't have a lot of stopping power.

But it does look fricking sweet

havent studied any references but i wonder if the barrel silencer thing really has such a wavy silhouette - i always thought its more like a plain cylinder, not that it does bother much anyway.

kio what you are seeing is the back side air vents causing the wavy ness. That is how it really looks too on this particular weapon.

Hm, haven't had much time to work on this recently but I'm determined to finish it.

Still plenty of detailing and attachments to do, but the basic shapes are mostly there.
Also I realised that I wasn't paying attention, and a couple of my references seem to be of a slightly different version of the gun, and the grip is a bit different (along with some of the body shapes) so I'm gonna have to watch out for that.

Extremely nice shapes. The sweeping curves are very crisp and the whole thing ties together nicely. It is funny to see how critical a trigger is to a gun, it's really aching for that

Looking forward to seeing this finished.

OK, pretty much done with the highpoly:

Haven't done the tac light on the front, I probably won't be able to finish before the deadline if I try and include it now. Might add it on later.
